Arts On The Move (AOTM) is a collaborative initiative by Think City and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad to bring a range of quality public arts and cultural activities such as live performances and exhibitions to KL’s rail transport system, beginning with the Masjid Jamek LRT Station. Masjid Jamek represents the site of the founding of Kuala Lumpur and has great historic significance. It also represents the focal point of our Think City KL programme, which covers an area within 1km radius from Masjid Jamek.
With the aim of rejuvenating public spaces, AOTM hopes to engage commuters and enrich lives through the arts. We believe that the arts should be accessible to a diverse range of people, regardless of their socio-economic background. We hope that, through this initiative, downtown KL would be recognised as a hub for the arts, culture and heritage and that we will have created consistent and sustained work for our artists.
Aswara Dance Company – A professional dance collective that specializes in traditional and contemporary Malaysian dance.
AOTM showcases a wide range of performances by local talents, providing them an avenue for exposure to their audience. Past performers include Hady Afro Trio, Mahavidya Dance Theatre, Dikir Barat Arjunasukma, Az Samad, Shanthini Venugopal, Eddie Zachariah, Nyoba Kan, Orang Orang Drum Theatre, Jay Sern Duo, KLSape Collective, Aseana Percussion Unit, and many more. Furthermore, commuters also have had the opportunity to view several exhibitions such as Resonance Kids by Studio DL, a photography exhibition that displays photographs taken by children aged 10-18 of the streets of KL, with guidance from professional photographers; and Contenglah! by Doodle Malaysia, an exhibition of wall murals that aims to encourage self-expression through drawing, this exhibition also featured live mural drawing sessions by mural artists.
