Social and Environmental – Senior Associate (Climate)

Looking for a multiskilled, detail-oriented and ambitious Senior Associate with formal education in environmental or climate economics and a minimum of 3-5 years professional experience to build their career while improving Malaysia’s resilience and capacity to adapt to climate change impacts.

The purpose of this position is to contribute to a wide range of climate-related work that the organisation is undertaking, ranging from policy recommendation, formulation and implementation of adaptation plans to climate risk analysis. You will build collaborative relationships with colleagues across other flagships, as well as with key institutions, authorities and other international partners.

To be a successful Senior Associate, you should focus on contributing your expertise to help drive the climate change agenda relating to mitigation and adaptation that are in line with the organisation’s aspiration. Ultimately, an exceptional Senior Associate will be self-driven to design, implement and monitor multiple initiatives while collaborating with internal and external partners. Your manager and other senior members are there to guide you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving the coordination of all aspects of selected major projects and commissions 
  • Data compilation, meeting and workshop preparation, logistics, preparation of briefing papers/presentations
  • Quality control of internal and external outputs and deliverables
  • Engage with communities to co-design interventions
  • Building and maintaining a network of stakeholders
  • Ensure methodology and steps taken are documented so that they can be defended and replicated
  • Maintain up to date documentation and filing

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a focus in environmental or climate economics required; advanced degree preferred

Minimum years of experience:

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience

Kind of experience:

  • Relevant professional experience at the local and regional levels in climate-related policy work 
  • Specialised experience in adaptation including disaster management, implementation of climate resilience plans or related fields
  • Proven research interests in climate change issues
