Over the years, various efforts have been made by a diverse range of stakeholders, including local communities, to preserve and celebrate these cultural assets as part of city activation and rejuvenation. The Segget River Rejuvenation project is an initiative by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) to improve the image and identity of Downtown Johor Bahru and to catalyse social and economic transformation in the city. Realising that grassroots participation is crucial in ensuring more sustainable, local social and economic development, IRDA, in collaboration with Think City has launched the Downtown Johor Bahru Grants Progamme: Arts, Heritage and Culture to complement the Segget River Rejuvenation project. The grants programme aims to empower communities to take part in creating vibrant, inclusive, and thriving spacesin the city that knit together Johor Bahru’s historic fabric while enhancing its liveability and visitor appeal. This grants programme is open to individuals and organisations who are interested and passionate about delivering impactful projects related to space reactivation, cultural content, and community programme within Downtown Johor Bahru.
