The Downtown Kuala Lumpur Grants Programme, supported by the Ministry of Finance, is rooted in the spirit of revitalising the historical city centre towards the creation of a liveable, vibrant and thriving hub.

The Grants Programme aims to address issues that are affecting communities in Downtown Kuala Lumpur as part of the vision of establishing a creative and cultural district in the area.

With the success of the first grant cycle, we are now focused on helping business and communities within Downtown Kuala Lumpur to thrive and build back better – with a second grant cycle, NOW OPEN for applications!

This grants programme is open to individuals and organisations with creativity and resilience as the core components towards the rejuvenation of Downtown Kuala Lumpur.

Grant Themes

Space Regeneration

  1. Adaptive re-use
    • Repurposing of heritage buildings for new use and new content.
    • Restoration of the facade and/or roofscape of heritage buildings.
  2. Green Initiative
    • Green and climate-friendly solutions to existing building or its surrounding.

Content Creation

  1. Cultural Content
    • Curating and organising a series of long-term programmes to reactivate DTKL by highlighting its cultural heritage assets.
  2. Community Building
    • Programmes that empower and enable communities in DTKL by providing them with avenues and necessary tools that facilitate community development, inclusivity and participation.

WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?


A unique incentive for you to play an active role in transforming Downtown Kuala Lumpur into a vibrant, celebrated and resilient city.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU APPLY FOR?


Any amount as long as the project showcases a sustainable plan for the applicant and/or for Downtown Kuala Lumpur.

However, this grant is not applicable for a full grant. We encourage applicants to seek co-investment.

All project funding will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

Yes, as long as you live in Malaysia and have a stake in a business, property or project in Downtown Kuala Lumpur.

As long as your proposal targets the community within the Downtown Kuala Lumpur area and is within the grant themes mentioned above, you are welcome to submit an application.

Yes! Please state the already secured funding in the budget template of the application form and provide a letter of interest as evidence.

No. We only accept one application per organisation/applicant per grant cycle.

Yes! You are eligible to apply for the grant.

All projects must be completed within 12 months from the time of signing the grant agreement. However, if the project is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, you can request for an extension of your grant term.

The grant is designed to help supplement your project funding. The grant will support up to 50% of total project cost. We highly suggest our applicants to source for co-funding partners for their proposed projects.

No. This grant programme aims to fund seed projects that will aid in the long-term recovery and resilience of Downtown Kuala Lumpur. It is to empower individuals or organisations to play an active role in building back better and more sustainably. We are looking for new ideas and content for Downtown Kuala Lumpur!

You can apply for this grant through a soft copy application form (Download Method) or through an e-form (Online Method). Please note that the committee will only accept one proposal application even though there are duplications in both applications methods. Think City, together with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Jabatan Warisan Negara, have created the Kuala Lumpur Creative and Cultural District (KLCCD) strategic masterplan. The purpose is to regenerate Downtown Kuala Lumpur through a culture-based economy, and create inclusive, authentic, and viable creative and cultural places that knit together the historic fabric while enhancing liveability and visitor appeal.

As part of the KLCCD, the Downtown Kuala Lumpur Grants Programme empowers the public to take initiative and ownership of the area by delivering innovative solutions that will strengthen and transform Downtown Kuala Lumpur.
