INTBAU Weekend: Regenerating Historic Neighbourhoods

INTBAU – the International Network of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism – is a global network committed to creating better places to live.  To celebrate the launch of the Malaysia Chapter, local partner, Think City, is hosting an exhibition, heritage walks, talks, screenings, and tutorials.

 

Get to know your city better! Take a walk through the streets of Downtown KL and discover the history behind the original street names. Or visit five places of worship to explore the architecture, and the cultures surrounding the faiths. Learn more about conservation work being done around Malaysia.  Come and join us for a weekend of events, and become a member of INTBAU.

A walk around the historic core of Kuala Lumpur, sketching of heritage buildings.Following the sketching exercise the artists’ work will be displayed at the INTBAU Exhibition.

A fascinating and insightful look at the current and historical names of the streets around Old KL. The walk will be followed by a sharing session at the INTBAU Exhibition.

Heritage Walk 2: Five for the Faithful

Meet at Groundfloor, RUANG by Think City

Conducted by Lim Ee Lin of Badan Warisan

Discover the roots of KL’s past and its many communities as we explore five of the city’s historic religious landmarks and extrapolate their stories and architecture. The 90-minute walk will start at Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja and end at Gudwara Sahib Polis, Jalan Balai Polis, in downtown Kuala Lumpur.
Heritage Walk 3: KL’s Traditional Shophouse Architecture
Conducted by Ar. Lim Tak Bane
What do we know about old shophouses – their architecture, their functions, their histories, and the communities who lived and worked in them? This walk will bring us through the streets of old KL to explore how the traditional shophouse contributed to the unique character of the historic city centre.
