About Project

The Light Project is an extension of CENDANA’s yearly marquee event Art In The City in collaboration with Think City to light up cities with public art and performances curated to take place in selected cities nationwide. The effort is scheduled to take place as temporary installations with curated performances and aims to:

  • Keep cities alive during the pandemic via public art (using light);
  • To inspire and give hope to the wider arts and culture communities and the public to rise from the pandemic;
  • Stimulate conversations and create job opportunities for local artists, cultural workers, production crew, fabricators and more within the selected cities;
  • Support out of the box creativity beyond Klang Valley that may nurture other collaborations; and
  • Harmonise public and private stakeholders in protecting and contributing to development of the sector.

Grants Value

Up to RM 180,000 to create and organise public art installation (light installation), and outreach programme (performances, exhibition, video projection, workshops, designer, photographer, videographer, other cultural workers and more) that may take a wide range of forms, sizes and scales, depending on the public space for a period of 6 months. Other requirements are outlined in the Terms of Reference.

 

Who Can Apply?

Malaysian artists, collectives and arts/ creative organisations with a minimum track record of three (3) years and are actively engaged in the Malaysian arts and culture sector and residing at selected cities, namely Butterworth, Ipoh, Melaka, Batu Pahat and Kuching are welcome to apply The Light Project. The applicants need to work with local partners for the entire project.

How long do we have to wait before we know if we are selected?

Upon the closing of the application date, the waiting period may be from two (2) to four (4) weeks.

Who is not eligible to apply for The Light Project?

We will not be able to support your application if you are currently receiving grants or sponsorship under MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd or CENDANA funding programmes;

  • that have pending/ outstanding evaluation reports on the use of previous funding programmes from MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd or CENDANA; however, you may be able to apply upon fulfilling or resolving these obligations.
  • if there are any adverse findings during the due diligence process.
  • undischarged bankrupt or with pending or threatened bankruptcy proceedings against the applicant.

How can we apply for The Light Project?

You can submit your funding application form and proposal through e-mail to thelight.cendana@thinkcity.com.my. Submissions via other means, e.g. hardcopies, will NOT be accepted unless specified. Application and templates for relevant submission documents are outlined in the Terms of Reference.

What happens after we submit an application?

Once application deadline closes, all applications will be vetted through to ensure projects meet the eligibility criteria and relevant supporting documents have been submitted. All applications are jointly assessed and approved through a highly-competitive evaluation process.

How will our application be assessed?

Applicants will be evaluated against the criteria provided under the funding programme Terms of Reference. Applications that meet all requirements will then go into evaluation process to be assessed by the Evaluation Committee comprise of industry advisors, experts and practitioners, determined by a weighted scoring system against the published assessment criteria. The recommended applicants will be reviewed and subsequently approved by the Management/ Board of Directors.

How will we receive funding?

Funding may be disbursed in three (3) tranches. The funds will be credited to your recognised bank account.

What happens after the applications are assessed?

Successful Applications

Successful applicants will receive an official email notification with the Letter of Offer stating the approved funding amount, terms and conditions in addition to performance goals and deliverables.

Unsuccessful Applications

Unsuccessful applicants will receive an official email within the same notification period.

What is expected from successful applicants?

To deliver project as outlined in approved proposal and other requirements as outlined in the Terms of Reference.

What is required after the programme is completed?
  • To complete Economic Monitoring Survey (provided by CENDANA);
  • To submit a monthly progress report
  • To submit a final report that includes project documentation and expenditure
  • To submit any other form of validation – supplementary materials of activity such as videos, photos and collaterals created (Pre-project, progress, outreach programme and post-project)
