The 810 square metres of plain tarmac at the end of Old Jetty Road is now the Jeti Lama Rain Garden. Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, launched the ground-breaking ceremony on March 26, 2017 and it was officially open to public on October 28, 2017.
This project is in partnership with the Penang State Government and Seberang Perai Municipal Council under the Pekan Lama Regeneration Plan to activate old sites and repopulate the area with exciting activities.
The underutilised space at the end of Old Jetty Road has been converted into a proper parking lot. There are now 15 formalised carparks, 2 OKU carparks, 12 motorbike lots, a water pump feature and an art installation. This park within a car park is the first of its kind in Penang where a rain garden is incorporated around the rectangular piece of land and also on the concrete square beside it.
