The Cities Investment Portal is a digital platform looking to matchmake investors with SDG-aligned city projects. It is part of UN-Habitat’s larger Cities Investment Facility (CIF) initiative to address the US$5.6 trillion annual sustainable infrastructure investment gap. The CIF seeks to de-risk and improve the bankability of city projects by strengthening their preparation process. As the first entry point to the CIF, vetted and endorsed projects will be featured on the CI Portal to access a host of impact investors.
There is a stark gap in urban finance, with ~US$5.6 trillion needed annually to address global demand for sustainable infrastructure, including ~US$300 billion required for project preparation. This is partially caused by a lack of capacity to prepare bankable and de-risked cities that meet the requirements and attract private investors. It is critical that we close this gap and mobilise capital to help cities achieve the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Think City developed and launched the beta-version of the Cities Investment Portal (CI Portal) at the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi.
The beta-version was successfully launched and pitched to potential investors and stakeholders at the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum. It currently hosts 37 projects, which investors can filter and search through for investment opportunities.
Think City is currently exploring the next stages of launching the full-version of the CI Portal, in partnership with UN-Habitat as part of their larger Cities Investment Facility initiative.
