Creative Economy - Manager (Based in KL)


The Manager, Creative Economy plays a pivotal role in positioning Think City as a leading organisation in the development of creative cities. Reporting to the Head of Creative Economy, the role supports the design and delivery of content and programming initiatives that strengthen and enrich the city’s creative ecosystem.

This role contributes to enhancing the visual quality, functionality, and cultural vibrancy of public spaces by supporting urban design initiatives, public art installations, and street furniture projects. The Manager, Creative Economy also activates public spaces through cultural events, festivals, public art initiatives, and exhibitions, while fostering meaningful collaborations across public, private, and community stakeholders.

In addition, the role plays an important part in nurturing the creative community by facilitating access to resources, networking platforms, and professional development opportunities. Collectively, these efforts contribute to the realisation of Warisan KL and support ongoing innovation and growth within the city’s creative landscape.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Planning & Implementation

  • Facilitate and execute implementation plans for assigned projects under the Creative Economy programmes, ensuring objectives, targets, and schedules are met.
  • Support overall project management, including coordination across different Think City workstreams and reporting.
  • Ensure initiatives are aligned with the broader strategy to position Kuala Lumpur as a leading creative and cultural district, fostering collaboration and community engagement.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Community Outreach

  • Lead effective engagement with the community, project partners, grantees, and external networks to promote project objectives and foster collaboration.
  • Lead the alignment and co-creation of project targets, facilitating partnerships to enhance project impact.
  • Actively engage with local creative communities and industry stakeholders to cultivate partnerships, support grassroots initiatives, and encourage community-led contributions to the city’s creative and cultural transformation.

3. Project Monitoring, Compliance & Reporting

  • Support the monitoring process, ensuring adherence to project guidelines, organisational policies, regulatory requirements, and Think City’s internal quality and brand standards.
  • Document the various stages of projects, tracking deadlines, and highlighting risks or challenges to the Head of Creative Economy.
  • Manage project reporting, including regular engagement with partners and grantees to monitor progress, ensure deliverables are met, and oversee documentation of key project phases, including event reports and photographic records.
  • Ensure accurate and organised documentation of project materials, including presentations, proposals, budgets, and reports, for audits and reviews.

4. Leadership

  • Provide project-level leadership by guiding junior team members and collaborators, setting clear direction, and ensuring coordinated delivery across partners and workstreams in line with programme objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in any field.

 Experience

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in project management, programme implementation, and stakeholder engagement within the creative economy, urban development, cultural, community development, or related sectors.
  • Proven track record in planning, coordinating, and delivering multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring timely execution, quality outcomes, and alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Strong organisational and project management capabilities, including experience managing consultants, contractors, grantees, and external service providers to deliver project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships and engage effectively with government agencies, local authorities, community organisations, industry partners, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting community-based initiatives, placemaking, urban regeneration, public space activation, cultural programmes, exhibitions, festivals, or public engagement activities would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and reporting skills, with experience preparing project proposals, presentations, budgets, progress reports, and documentation while ensuring governance, compliance, and quality standards are met.
  • Strong attention to detail with experience monitoring project progress, identifying risks, maintaining accurate project records, and supporting audits and organisational reporting.
