Senior Associate for Warisan KL and Dataran Merdeka Heritage Area, Culture-Based Economic Development (Heritage & Conservation)



Think City’s Culture-Based Economic Development programme seeks to build an interconnected network of cultural assets within and between cities, leveraging heritage as a catalyst for local socio-economic development. The programme focuses on heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, and museology, enabling historic assets to remain relevant and economically sustainable in contemporary urban environments.

Our work includes the preparation of dilapidation surveys, strategic master plans, and conceptual design proposals that guide conservation interventions, restoration works, adaptive reuse strategies, and museum curation. These efforts aim to enhance the value of heritage assets while connecting building owners with new cultural, social, and commercial opportunities.

Beyond strategic planning, the programme is also involved in implementation and project oversight, including condition assessments, restoration, upgrades, and refurbishment of heritage buildings.


Role Purpose

As a Senior Associate, you will play a key role in project development, design ideation, and delivery in Warisan KL and Dataran Merdeka Heritage Area. The role involves working closely with internal teams, clients, government agencies, and both local and international experts to develop impactful heritage-led initiatives.

This position offers opportunities to engage with significant cultural heritage sites and complex multidisciplinary projects, contributing to meaningful conservation outcomes that support sustainable urban development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Placemaking project management1. Project Development and Design

  •  Lead the development of conceptual designs, drawings, and visualisations for heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Contribute to strategic planning documents, including master plans, feasibility studies, and design frameworks.

2.  Project Management and Implementation

  • Manage and monitor physical conservation, restoration, and refurbishment works on site.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and technical specialists to ensure works comply with conservation principles and project requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, condition assessments, and technical reviews.

3. Business Development

  • Contribute to business development initiatives, including preparing proposals, concept notes, and pitch presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Think City’s heritage and cultural development portfolio.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the management of key clients and stakeholders, including heritage building owners, government agencies, and community groups.
  • Liaise with authorities on planning submissions, approvals, and compliance matters.

5. Reporting and Communication

  •  Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation that synthesise project findings, recommendations, and progress updates.
  • Facilitate client-consultant meetings, workshops, and community engagement sessions.


Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Surveying, or a related discipline, preferably with a focus on heritage conservation.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.

Desired Experience

  • Exposure to or strong interest in cultural heritage, conservation, and heritage-led urban development.
  • Experience in project coordination or project management.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and public sector stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional networks locally and internationally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
