How data can save Malaysia’s “hollowed out” city centres

Downtown Kuala Lumpur (KL) has “hollowed out”. Malaysia’s many satellite cities, or smaller towns outside of the city centre, were built to support population expansion. But these have emptied the city centre of its culture and talents.
Urban impact consultancy Think City is trying to “reenergise” KL by boosting accessibility, conservation efforts, and local culture. This starts with improving the way data is collected, used and shared, says Dr. Ceelia Leong, the organisation’s Co-Lead of Analytics.
